About
About the website
The Dulaney website was started in 1999. I started as a project to see if I could do it. The site at the beginning was very rudimentary, consisting of simple ‘html’ pages. Nowadays, I would only write html for very specific purposes, not an entire website.
I changed the site at this domain from time to time. Besides the initial html pages, I’ve used various CMS formats. I think I will be liking this format the best
My plan is to write about what I know, and in the process help someone else who may be thinking about the same thing. For example, MS Windows Vista upset me greatly, so I’ve gotten rid of it and am now using Linux on my PC. When I write about it, I’ll tell you how I did it so that you can do it also, if you would like. It’s that type of thing.
A Little About Me
Well, let’s see. I was born and raised in Illinois, about 25 miles west of Chicago. At the time it was farm country, corn and wheat, and I enjoyed growing up there. Now, I don’t even recognize it when I go home. Too built up.
I am now living outside Tucson, Arizona, with my wife, Deborah. I have two boys (hardly boys now) ages 30 and 32; Robbie has a son who lives in Tucson; Erran lives in Oregon with his wife and two boys of his own.
Deborah has three girls, two of which lived with us for a period until they ‘grew up’. Jennifer is now 27, married, and graduated from college in Dec 2004, and had a daughter in June 2008. Erin is 25 and works and has her own place.
I work as an engineer for a large company. I started out as electrical, but now, after 29 years, I have responsibility for many types of projects involving electrical, mechanical, optical, materials, etc. I have always loved computers, my first computer being a TI/94 (1981) with an audio tape player that I connected as a storage device to save the programs that I wrote. This was back in the ‘good ole days’, prior to Microsoft and PCs.
I have traveled extensively with my job, both in the US and overseas. I have been in most US states, most European countries, several middle east countries, South America, some far east countries and Canada. I hope some day to make it to Australia.
I estimate that I have spent over 6 years of the last 37 overseas. And I still travel, so if you can’t reach me via email, I may not be around. If I am around, I will answer all email within a day or two.
I have a BS degree in Information Systems, so running a website is natural. I do all of the work on this site (and others) myself, with the exception of creating the some of the graphics, which is done by my wife Deborah ( and please don’t call her Debbie
). She is better at using the graphics programs than I am. So, we make a good team.
I started pyrography back in 1983, if memory serves me correctly. I fell in love with it immediately. I am not an artist, and am not that good at it, but I find that it is relaxing. I plan to do much more of this art after I retire, which is getting to be really close; closer than I like, actually :).
